NMRA

The National Model Railroad Association is the largest organization devoted to the development, promotion, and enjoyment of the hobby of model railroading. The NMRA was founded in 1935 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in order to provide a service to the hobby of model railroading.

The NMRA website contains a tremendous amount of useful information for those who are thinking about getting involved with the wonderful hobby of model railroading, as well as experienced model railroaders. Their “Beginners Guide” section takes you step-by-step through the process of constructing a model railroad, from laying track and wiring through building scenery, it’s a great place to go for advice on how to get your trains running. For the expert model railroader, the NMRA has achievement awards and contests to extend recognition to those who have demonstrated excellence in model railroading.

If you are a model railroad club that holds public displays, you should be aware that the NMRA offers affordable liability insurance to members for special events.  Many locations require clubs displaying their layouts to carry liability insurance, and membership in the NMRA makes this easy for your club to obtain.

The NMRA also hosts annual conventions and shows.
